A Sobriquet is a fancy name-just like a “Nickname”. It’s more than an ordinary nickname, because a sobriquet is named after a certain value, gives a specific description of a person, place, or thing.
For instance when someone says “Ironman of India” obviously you all know that its “Vallabhbhai Patel”. By the way, sobriquet is more like a specialization. Adds flavor to the One which gives a unique particularity.
It’s not like making fun of someone/something as we do with our friends. Sobriquets are just more than a refined form of Nicknames and it is originated from a French term spelled as “sobri,ka”
